If these photos I shot with my friend Lindsey aren’t giving Moulin Rouge, I don’t know what to tell you. Moulin Rouge is one of my favorite movies and the old Hollywood vibe of this studio set reminded me of it. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to pull a look together for this, because while I love vintage clothes, hairstyles, and makeup looks, going down the road of the early 1900s was just not my strong suit.
Planning for this entire photoshoot was stressful… something about paying money to shoot in a space felt like a lot of pressure to make sure I got the most use out of the studio and everything down to the outfits had to be perfect. I was deciding what each of my looks would be right to the last minute, and to be quite honest, I wasn’t sure that we would even have enough time to get through this one. I’m posting a bit out of order, but this was the final look of the day, and we shot these photos in literally five minutes before we had to pack up our stuff and clear out of the space.
Despite all that, I work pretty well under pressure! (Don’t let it fool you though, it drives me bonkers.) I’ve had this Unique Vintage Navy Cupcake Dress in my closet for a few years now, and thankfully it still fit. Due to our limited time and needing to keep my hairstyles versatile, I didn’t get to go super glam with the hair, but it’s okay. I think the rest of the look really pulled together and gave off the Satine vibes I was trying to emulate.
I hope you found this photoshoot inspiring! Are you a Moulin Rouge fan? What’s your favorite song from the soundtrack?

Keshia
