I can’t believe how fast this year has flown by - so much so that we’re doing a recap of our final trip of 2022! A couple of weeks ago we took a trip to Houston for our friends’ wedding and I am truly regretting that we made such a quick trip out of it.

I’ll be creating a separate post for each day of our trip, so without further ado… here’s our day one adventures!

We stayed in the Aldine area which was actually quite far from the airport (about a 45 minute drive). After we dropped off our luggage at our hotel, we were ready to eat! Kevin found this place on Yelp called Fu Manchung, which had really good reviews and a 5-star rating. We obviously needed to see what the hype was all about!

We started off with the Grohman sampler, which came with two of each of their different egg rolls (Flying Egg Rolls, Crabby Cream Rolls, and Macarollee). Each of their flavors were special in their own way, but my favorite hands down had to be the traditional Vietnamese style Flying Egg Rolls.

Kevin ordered the Vermicelli Boom Cha Y’all and I got Eloisa’s House Fried Rice with Beef. I’m not a huge fan of vermicelli so I didn’t like Kevin’s dish (he liked it though!) but the fried rice was SO DANG GOOD. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again! (I’m not going to even try to hide the fact that we got the fried rice again the next day because I was having a mad craving for it.)

I also cannot rave enough about the customer service that Fu Manchung’s wonderful staff provided. Stephanie (pictured above) was so sweet and made us feel so welcome the second we walked into the restaurant! We had told her it was our first time in Houston, and before we left, she even gave us an extra order of the Flying Egg Rolls to go so we could enjoy them during our trip. Stephanie left a lasting impression and we are so grateful for her kindness!

Since we knew we wouldn’t have a lot of time to explore the city (and with how it gets so dark so early these days), I tried to narrow it down to just a few things I wanted to see. We stopped by the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park which was breathtaking and gorgeous to see all lit up!

Just down the street, we made a stop at the Galleria mall, which reminded me a lot of South Coast Plaza here in Orange County. The mall was beautifully decorated for the holidays and while we didn’t buy anything, we sure did a lot of window shopping!

We ended the evening with dessert at Milk + Sugar, a recommendation from our friend Justin. I loved their unique flavors and the consistency of their ice cream was perfection! Kevin ordered the Strawberry Almond Cheesecake and I got the Dulce de Horchata. It is definitely a must-try when you’re in Houston!
