Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022
As I mentioned in my last blog post, Kevin is a huge Star Wars fan, so when he saw that Star Wars Celebration was coming to Anaheim in 2020, he purchased one day passes for us to go. Unfortunately with the hit of COVID, the convention was delayed for two years but before we knew it, the day was finally here!
While normally I’m the one dragging Kevin to events, it was fully the other way around this time! I didn’t go into this with any plans, and I have to say, it was kind of nice going with the flow for a change. It was Kevin’s day and I had a lot of fun tagging along with him and some of our friends!
We had passes for Saturday of the weekend, so we had seen a little bit of coverage of the convention on social media already. Kevin wanted to check out The Mandalorian experience first, which was a good call because when we jumped in line it was a 45 minute wait (and by the end of the day, the wait was up to three hours long).
I am such a nerd for behind the scenes costumes and props from my favorite TV shows and movies, so The Mandalorian experience was one of my favorite exhibits to check out.
Grogu was absolutely precious and stole my heart!
Here’s a closer look at more costumes and scenes from The Mandalorian!
We also snapped a photo with the Rancor before heading out to check out the rest of the show.
We did a quick shopping trip to see the merch they had available and unfortunately, we left empty handed, but this Anakin banner cracked me up because I personally don’t like sand either for all the same reasons.
On our way to the main exhibit hall, we bumped into Crystal Rose who cosplayed as the Frog Lady! This was hands down my favorite cosplay I saw at the convention - I mean, look at the attention to detail!
Once inside, we saw some costumes from Obi-Wan Kenobi. So far I’ve been loving the show! If you’ve seen it, what have you thought?
We also checked out some of the art exhibitors and ran into our friend Asia who I hadn’t seen in a few years! I love her art style and she was so sweet and gifted me a Grogu sticker while we were there.
Maggie recommended we check out the Droid Room and it was cool seeing all the replicas that people built and the ways they made their droids their own.
First up, we got to hear from Doug Chiang on Designing The Mandalorian and it was fun to see some of the original concept art drawings like the one of Grogu on the right. I loved how he said that as they designed the set and feel for The Mandalorian, they incorporated things that felt familiar with things that felt new to give it a unique vibe. I think it’s safe to say they definitely accomplished that with the show!
We were lucky enough to also sit in on Anthony Daniels’ I Am C-3PO panel to close out the day. It was such a treat getting to hear him live in person, especially because he sounds just like C-3PO normally (but obviously less robotic and much livelier). He was so funny and engaging, and I loved the back and forth banter he had with Anthony Carboni who moderated the panel.
I also managed to sneak a photo with Anthony Daniels (he’s in it, I’m in it, it counts right?) which is a memory I’m going to keep forever! I hope you enjoyed this inside look at Star Wars Celebration, thanks for following along!
Have you been to Star Wars Celebration before? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below!
