"One of the Good Ones" World Premiere | Pasadena Playhouse

I’m a huge fan of Gloria Calderón-Kellett’s work, and as soon as I saw the announcement back in August that her new play “One of the Good Ones” was premiering at Pasadena Playhouse this spring, I knew I’d have to buy tickets the second they went on sale! This show was so well-written and I loved how thought provoking and relatable it was. I felt seen as a daughter of immigrant parents and I also feel like I gained some perspective from my parents’ point of view that really made me appreciate our culture and the sacrifices they made to come to this country.

About the show: When the “perfect” Latina daughter brings her boyfriend home to meet the parents, her family’s biases and preconceptions are put on full display. As tensions run high and hilarity ensues, everyone must navigate the ins and outs of family dynamics and the boundaries of acceptance - all while tackling the age-old question: What does it truly mean to be an American?

This star-studded cast includes Lana Parrilla as Ilana, Carlos Gomez as Enrique, Isabella Gomez as Yoli, Nico Greetham as Marcos, and Santino Jimenez as Pedro! Everyone gave a phenomenal performance and was so fun to watch on stage - trust me, you’re not going to want to miss the world premiere of this production!

Ticket prices start at $35, and the show is playing Wednesdays through Sundays at the Pasadena Playhouse (39 S El Molino Ave, Pasadena, CA 91101) now through 4/7. The performance length is 90 minutes, with no intermission. Parking is located directly across from the theatre in the Playhouse Plaza parking structure (680 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91101) for $5, or there is an ample amount of street parking available close by. I recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to show time!

After the show, I got to meet Lana Parrilla, Isabella Gomez, and Carlos Gomez! They were all so kind and I appreciated them taking the time to chat with me!
