Oklahoma! Opening Night at the Ahmanson Theatre

Disclosure: Center Theatre Group provided me and a friend with two complimentary tickets to opening night of Oklahoma! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

You’re doin’ fine, Oklahoma! I got to attend opening night of Oklahoma! at the Ahmanson Theatre last night and all I can say is WOW. I went into this show knowing absolutely nothing so there were many moments where I didn’t know what to expect.

This reimagined version of Oklahoma! was dark and twisted, which isn’t my usual cup of tea, but I do appreciate productions like this that really make you think about what you just experienced long after the show is over.

Prior to the show, I got to attend the VIP reception where there were food, drinks, music, and a photobooth! I also got to meet my new friend Melissa who loves theatre as much as I do, and it was so great getting to know her before the show started!

It was so great to run into a bunch of friends at the reception, including Brianna, Logan, and Felicia (all pictured in the first photo of this post), Zoe, and Marisa!

On the surface, Oklahoma! is simply about two simultaneous love triangles, but embedded in between are nuances about race, power, and toxic masculinity which give the story more life and meaning on a deeper level. The cast was absolutely phenomenal, full of energy, and truly made each of their characters their own. I also loved the diverse representation on stage!

Huge thank you to Center Theatre Group for having me and my friend Felicia! Be sure to grab your tickets to Oklahoma! here, now playing at the Ahmanson Theatre through 10/16!
