“It Lives Inside” Movie Premiere | Gold House x NEON
Disclosure: This film is signed to SAG-AFTRA’s Interim Agreement and is not struck.
I survived my first horror film (and I’m so incredibly proud that it was an API-led project)! I got to attend a special screening of “It Lives Inside” last night with my friend Dom and it was so good!
Here are a few behind the scenes shots of the cast and crew arriving to the premiere.
The movie is about Sam, an Indian-American teenager who rejects her culture to fit in at school, but when a mythological demonic spirit latches onto her former best friend, she must come to terms with her heritage to defeat it.
I’m so grateful Dom was with me for my first horror film. She is a huge horror fan so she knew exactly when to cover my eyes during the scary parts!
I loved how much Indian culture was embedded into the story, while still keeping true to the integrity of horror films. While our cultures are different, there is still so much similarity. I felt seen through little things that were subtly included, like when Sam was embarrassed to bring lunch from home to school, or when she purposely spoke to her parents in English vs. Hindi to show how she had assimilated to American culture.
It was also so lovely getting to meet and chat with Megan Suri (who plays Sam) and Betty Gabriel (who plays Joyce) while we were there. They were both so kind!
If you love horror films, be sure to catch “It Lives Inside” in theaters nationwide starting 9/22! It’s a scary good time! Huge thank you to Gold House and NEON for having me!
