A Strange Loop Opening Night | Ahmanson Theatre

Disclosure: Center Theatre Group provided me with two complimentary tickets to see A Strange Loop. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Center Theatre Group invited me to opening night of “A Strange Loop” last night and this show is phenomenal! I found it absolutely refreshing with its candid honesty about dealing with insecurities surrounding race, sexuality, and identity. I loved the music, and the entire cast was amazing and completely slayed their performances! I promise you, this is a show you are not going to want to miss!

Kevin and I both tried to dress up in outfits inspired by the main character, Usher! It was also great seeing our friend Bobby who always takes care of us on the red carpet.

Make sure to stop by the “A Strange Loop” x MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam neon sign in front of the Ahmanson Theatre where MAC artists will be sampling the Viva Glam lipstick line. When you spend $25 on a Viva Glam lipstick, MAC donates all $25 to local charities championing healthy futures and equal rights for ALL around the world.

I always love running into Doug Jones at theatre events - he is truly one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.

It was also great getting to meet Nia Vardalos and Raviv Ullman before the show.

About the show: Hell-bent on breaking free of his own self-perception, Usher, a young, gay, Black writer who hates his day job, writes a musical about a young, gay, Black writer who’s writing a musical about a young, gay, Black writer...a strange loop. Usher grapples with desires, identity, and instincts he both loves and loathes, all brought to life on stage by a hilarious, straight-talking ensemble.

Ticket prices start at $35 and the show is playing Tuesdays through Sundays at the Ahmanson Theatre (135 N Grand Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012) now through 6/30.

The performance length is 1 hour and 40 minutes, with no intermission. The show is recommended for ages 16 and up. This production contains explicit language, references to racism, sexual assault, homophobia, HIV stigmatization and scenes of an adult nature. The show uses strobe, flashing lights, and sudden loud noises.

Self-parking is available in the Music Center Garage for $10 at the Grand Ave entrance. I recommend getting to the theatre at least half an hour before show time!

I can’t believe I ran into Tina Knowles two nights in a row! She was so kind to take another photo with me.

Huge thank you to Center Theatre Group for having me!
