A Special Screening of "Elvis" and a Q&A with Austin Butler + Baz Luhrmann

I couldn’t believe my luck when I was invited to a special screening of Elvis that featured a Q&A with Austin Butler and Baz Luhrmann afterward! I watched an advanced screening earlier this year when the film was released, and was completely blown away by Austin’s performance as Elvis. I couldn’t wait to see the movie again!

Baz Luhrmann is one of my favorite directors, and I first fell in love with his movies after seeing Moulin Rouge. It became an obsession after I saw FTR Live’s Baz show, which is one of my favorite theatre productions ever, and got me to watch his other films. His theatrical and over-the-top style is so fun and inspiring! It was a treat getting to hear from him as he discussed the making of Elvis, along with Austin Butler and Mandy Walker who was the Director of Photography for the film.

Not to mention I have the hugest crush on Austin Butler, so I was floating on a cloud all evening. I grew up watching him on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel, so it’s been great watching his career throughout the years and I am so proud of how far he’s come with all of his success. His dedication to playing Elvis as accurately and honestly as possible really showed through his performance, and there were so many times throughout the film where I had to do a double take because he embodied Elvis so well.

Afterwards, Austin and Baz signed autographs for the fans, and I still have regrets for not bringing anything to sign! They were both in a rush to catch a flight and so I considered myself really lucky that Baz stopped to take a photo with me. However, the stage was very high, so it was a bit of a disaster and I only caught my forehead… but I promise it’s me!

Have you seen Elvis yet? I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below!
