My latest goal has been to spend more quality time with myself and do the things I want to do without feeling like I need to go with someone else in order to do it. My social anxiety has been through the roof since the pandemic (sometimes I feel like I forgot how to socialize with people) so this little exercise has been helping me push through my discomfort and has shown me that I can handle it just fine!

With all that said, I decided to make a trip out to Monsterpalooza last week. Most of you know I’m such a scaredy cat so going to this by myself was extra outside of my comfort zone.

Before the show started, I waited outside the Pasadena Convention Center for two hours in the sun. It was so hot, and wearing my spirit jersey definitely did not help with the heat. I had arrived early since all the fine print mentioned to arrive hours in advance because everyone had to pick up their wristbands at will call, and that the entire process could take a while. If we ran late and ended up missing our photo op due to will call, they would not be responsible for it, so I definitely made sure to get there as soon as I got off work. In retrospect, I don’t think I really needed to arrive that early because they started handing out wristbands around 4:30pm and once the doors opened at 6pm, getting inside the convention center was a breeze… but better safe than sorry, right?

After walking the floor for a bit, I realized I had nothing to be afraid of. I actually really appreciated the level of detail and talent that the artists put into their work! While I don’t think this experience changed my mind that horror is still not for me, I am so incredibly proud of myself for facing my fears and trying something new.

The main reason I had gone was because I wanted to grab a photo with Omri Katz and Vinessa Shaw (AKA Max and Allison) from Hocus Pocus. I’ve never done one of the fancy photo ops at a convention before but quickly learned that it doesn’t leave a lot of time to talk to them (which I’m super bummed about!) but they were so kind and sweet during the few seconds I did have with them. Hocus Pocus is my all time favorite Halloween movie and the 90s kid in me was so giddy that I got to meet them.

Are you excited for the Hocus Pocus sequel later this year?
